Barbara Ann Shea (Nihill) August 20, 1949 - February 10, 2018 Passed peacefully after an arduous battle with Alzheimers/Frontotemperal Dementia (FTD). A beautiful soul was lost, who, though limited in speech and expression by her Dementia, never failed to make others smile even when she couldn't. Her children, Kelly Shea Neal (49) and Michael Shea (47) by her side along with former husband and the father of her children Michael J. Shea. She also leaves behind (3) loving grandsons from Michael and wife Christine - Brendan (19), Colin (17) and Ryan (13). Kelly and her husband Jay Neal blessed her with her beautiful granddaughters Peyton (16) and Presley (14). Barbara also leaves behind her mother, Helen Aldene Nihill and one sister, Lynn Nihill Georgiadis, husband Jim and nieces Gretchen and Heidi, Brother in-law Tony Koterba and nephews Anthony and Andrew. Barbara was predeceased by her dear sister Cathy Nihill Koterba and father Robert Nihill. Barbara was known to all as a caring, loving, sweet and selfless mother and friend that would stop at nothing to give her children every opportunity to succeed. She worked for over 30 years as accounts director and bookkeeper for Andrew Foltyn, Inc in Troy, MI. and helped send both of her children to Michigan State University. She was a proudly independent woman that never came across a challenge that she could not tackle. She enjoyed taking on projects one after the other. She taught herself how to do ceramic tile, woodworking, stained glass and furniture upholstery to name just a few. She was an avid antique collector and often took trips with her sister Cathy to discover new treasures. She enjoyed the company of her dear friends as they made their dinner dates a weekly event. She also was quite adept at creative writing and always enjoyed tackling a book just about every week. She was born in Dearborn Heights on August 20th, 1949. The second of three daughters born to parents Robert and Aldene Nihill. She attended Our Lady of Grace School in Dearborn Heights and Dearborn Fordson High School. Her father Robert was an Engineer at Ford Motor Company after his tour in the United States Naval Academy. Barbara and her family had a small cottage in Davisburg, Michigan very near the cottage of the family of her eventual husband, Michael J. Shea. They met when Barbara was sixteen years old and married two years later after her graduation from high school in October of 1967. They eventually settled in Sterling Heights, MI in 1974 where Barabara resided until relocating to Scottsdale, AZ less than five years ago to be close to Kelly, Jay and her daughters and receive the care she required. She was adored by residents and staff alike at her final residence at Belmont Village of Scottsdale. She will indeed be missed by all of those graced by her presence. Barbara's family will receive friends for a memorial gathering on Saturday, February 24th from 11:00AM until time of service 1:00PM at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr at Masonic (13-1/2 Mile), Warren.
