Barbara June Thompson, 84, of Cross Lanes went home to be with the Lord on November 19, 2016 after a long illness. She was born on July 4, 1932 to the late Chester Nichols Sr. and Dorothy Russell Nichols in the log cabin next to her current home. As a teenager she loved sunbathing, riding in convertibles, and all things Elvis. After graduating from Stonewall Jackson High School she worked at the Diamond Department store. She married Bobby Thompson in 1960 and they built a beautiful home on land that had been part of her father’s dairy farm where she grew up. June loved celebrations, from the planning, shopping, decorating to then cooking and baking all day to make the event perfect for family and friends. She was the hostess to countless wedding showers, baby showers and family birthday and holiday gatherings. Later her husband, Bobby Thompson, restored the log cabin where she and her brother, Blue, were born so that she would have even more space to entertain guests. Now she is celebrating in heaven. June was a member of the Main Street Church of God (now Southridge Church) for over 50 years and in recent years a member of the Teays Valley Church of God. Their Main Street church TLC prayer group met weekly for many years at the restored log cabin. Besides entertaining, June volunteered with her mother, Dorothy, for many years at St. Francis Hospital and was also a founding member of the local Creative Arts Homemaker’s Club.

In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by an infant son, John Franklin, sister, Edna Nichols Rhett, stepson, Denny Thompson, and most recently by her loving brother, Chester “Blue” Nichols, Jr. in February 2016.

June is survived by her devoted husband, Bobby Thompson, brother, Robert “Bobby” Nichols and wife, Marilyn, sister-in-law and best friend, Charlotte Nichols and stepson, “Butch” Thompson and family. June leaves behind her extended family and friends. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.

A special thank you to caregivers, Anita Alford and Rose Martin for their hard work, care and compassion shown to June and the family during her final weeks. Thank you also to Tinzey for caring for June during the summer. The family is also grateful to Hospice for their home nursing care. June greatest wish was to spend her final days at home close to her husband and family. Thank you to God, her caregivers and Hospice for making this possible.

The funeral service will be Friday, November 25, 2016 at 2:00pm at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Rd., Cross Lanes, WV, 25313, with Pastor Dave Bowen officiating. Visitation will begin at Noon. Burial will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the scholarship fund in honor of her younger sister: Edna Rhett Scholarship, AFT – Kanawha, 1615 Washington Street East Charleston, WV 25311 or Kanawha Hospice Care. Online condolences may be made by visiting
