Barbara M. Swenton, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, of Harpursville, NY, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 21, 2017. Born in Binghamton, NY on August 28, 1936, she was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Joseph W. Swenton and her parents, Clarence R. and Evelyn M. (Pomeroy) Tiel. She is survived by her son Joseph M. and Debra Swenton, Owego, NY; daughters Linda and Lynn Saxton, Walworth, NY, Susan and Kevin Boyce, Binghamton, NY, and Karen and John Sokol, Newark Valley, NY; grandchildren Carrie and Jason Luke, David Swenton, Steven and Jason Saxton, Kara Boyce-Anisimov and Daniel Anisimov, Kristopher Boyce, and Briana and Nathan Sokol; great grandchildren, Abigail, Patrick, and Kellen Luke; a brother, Richard and Dorcas Tiel, Mt. Vernon, WA, a sister, Esther Tiel, Lakeland, FL, a sister-in-law Carole and Michael Matiko, Duryea, PA as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Barbara worked in manufacturing and retired from Gagne, Inc. after 25 years. More recently, she worked as a caregiver for Home Instead. She was a member of Binghamton First Church of the Nazarene and of the Women's Auxiliary at the Sanitaria Springs Fire Department. She cherished her family. True to her vibrant spirit, she enjoyed gardening, bird watching, ceramics, crocheting and sports-Go Bills and Yankees! She was also an avid reader, puzzler and game player, especially Jeopardy. Her family extends their heartfelt thanks to the many caregivers who attended to her needs during her extended illness, especially the staff at Vestal Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sanitaria Springs Fire Department or Binghamton First Church of the Nazarene. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her
