Barry L. Cottrell, 71, of Apopka, Florida passed away November 17, 2017. He was born to Edward Barry and Madge Cottrell on July 12, 1946 in Lima, Ohio. Barry proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He lived in many places during his military career, including Japan where he met his wife of 50 years, Chieko. Barry was a Vietnam War veteran and he retired from the service as a Chief Petty Officer E-7. He was very passionate about the military and what he stood for. Barry was a strong Republican. He adored his grandchildren and considered it a great honor to be called “Grandpa.” Barry worked different careers after his retirement from the military, one of which with the Ocoee Driver’s License office. He was Christian in faith. Barry was a talented artist and cook. He could create anything from paintings to wood working. Barry also liked to collect items, such as paper weights and beer steins. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Barry was preceded in passing by his parents and his sisters Pauline Cottrell, Wilma Leis, Betty Blair, Virginia Marshall, and Carol Cottrell.

He is survived by his beloved wife Chieko; his eldest son Edward B.T. Cottrell and his wife Vjollca and their children, Edward Andrew (“Andy Boy” to Barry) and Anthony Austin “Tony” Cottrell; his daughter Michieko Wright and her children Dustin Wright and his wife Laurel, and Morgan Wright; his son Jason Cottrell and his wife Afet and their children Christine Cottrell, Eliza Cottrell, Isabelle Cottrell, and Leo Cottrell; his sister Phylis Goulet; his many nieces and nephews in Ohio; as well as many other family members and friends and his beloved pets, cat Tigger and dog Ginny.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 24 from 10:30 am – 11:30 am at Baldwin Fairchild West Altamonte, 90 Weathersfield Ave., Altamonte Springs, FL 32714. Interment will follow with military honors at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in memory of Barry to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society at
