Bernardo Mercado, 57, passed away on December 4, 2017 in Winter Springs, Florida. He was born on February 12, 1960 in New York, New York to Jose Mercado and Ana Monsanto. He is survived by his loving wife Sandra Mercado and their sons Alexander, Nicholas and Justin. He is also survived by his daughter Jennifer and son Adam as well as his siblings Susan, Herbert, Jose, Margaret, Anthony and David along with many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly. He was loved by everyone….. young and old.

Bernardo is a former state trooper and current business owner. He is the creator of SD Protection, Sambumbia Chef and an all-around entrepreneur extraordinaire.

“My Tio was one of the most generous men I had the fortune of knowing, who could say things that would make you cringe and laugh till your ribs busted, and who always in whatever season could rock a fedora. I remember being at a funeral with my Tio Bernie next to me (unfortunately we've meet up at many funerals) and him telling me, "When it's my time to go, that's where the sadness and tears need to end. My life will be celebrated with good food, family and friends laughing, and a lot of bottles of goose and juice."

“Our Tio Bernie passed away the other night which took us all by surprise. I’ll never forget during my childhood all the funny things he used to say and do. He always had a way of bringing light to the room and making everybody laugh.”

“You gave with all your heart and you fought just as hard on things you believed in. I will miss our goose and juice and cigars, the Giants Games we went to always within the first few rows at the 50-yard line because "That's How You Rolled". I will miss our talks, arguments, fights, and hugs telling each other " I Love You Man" till wee hours of the mornings usually with way too many goose and juices. We talked family, love, friends, and business with no holds barred passion. We often disagreed yet you always took what I said to heart and thanked me for it. You lived life your way regardless of what people thought. You inspired me more than you know with your run through any wall mentality no matter what the obstacle.”

“Bernie was such a gargantuan presence despite his height! I can’t help but smile because he would be telling me right about now (while stretching his legs, raising his chin and pounding his chest) “Alright, alright, Titi. Ya, se acabo!”. He was a wonderful friend, but more importantly he was our family. He pulled no punches, was generous and was real all the time. He lived life his way. Bernie, I will never, ever forget you - you are imbedded in our hearts forever. I will miss our chats and most of all the laughter.”

“I will never forget the good times we had & great food at family dinners…the love in parenting you & Bernie showed me will be passed along to my daughter.”

You will be missed and never forgotten “Peter Pan”.
