BERNICE BIAS

1935-2017

Bernice left her earthly home for her heavenly home unexpectedly on July 12, 2017. Visitation will be Monday, July 17, 2017 from 1-2:30pm, followed by a celebration of her life at 2:30 at Parkade Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

She was the youngest of eleven daughters, born to Arie and Patrina VanderLinden of Lacey, Iowa on October 7, 1935. At the age of 15, she graduated from Lacey High School; then immediately went to work at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Oskaloosa. She moved to Columbia, MO in 1956, where she began working for Missouri Telephone Co. that later became General Telephone. She retired from there in 1986 with 30 years of service.

In 1959, she married Bill Bias. Their union was blessed with two sons Ron and Bob. They were married three months short of 55 years, before Bill passed away in 2014. In 1970, they joined Parkade Baptist Church, where she served in different ways. She was a Church Teller for several years and had been the Sunday School Secretary since 1972. After retiring from GTE, boredom set in, so she went to work for OAT'S Inc as an Accounts Payable Clerk. She worked there 27 years, until she retired to take care of Bill who was very sick at that time.
