On Wednesday, March 1, 2017, Bertie Pauline Foley lost her fierce and lengthy battle with dementia due to Alzheimer's disease. Bertie was a mother of 3, but above all, she was a grandmother of 6. Having a competitive attitude, she dedicated more than 10 years supporting her grandchildren on countless ball fields and in competitions throughout North Carolina.
She was best known for her hard work as a bus driver for Randolph County Schools.
Vocal to the end, her great loves in life were listening to Alan Jackson and Garth Brooks, cheering the Atlanta Braves, her dogs, answering Wheel of Fortune puzzles before anyone else, and watching timeless western movies.
Bertie was predeceased by her husband Belvie "Bud" Edward Foley, Jr., her grandson, Christopher Ryan Foley, and her grandson, Patrick Tyler Foley. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Freeman, son, David Foley & wife Shelia, daughter, Lora Howard & husband Bryan, granddaughters, Jennifer Bonar & husband Billy, Kathleen Garner & husband John, Christine McLaughlin, Colleen McLaughlin, and nine great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Saturday, March 4 at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home on Vanstory Street in Greensboro. At Bertie's request there will be a small, private, memorial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Guilford Rotary Coins for Alzheimer's Research "CART" Fund at 3260 Gainsboro Dr. Greensboro, NC 27410 or Community Hospice of Siler City at 108 Village Lake Road, Building 1, Siler City, NC 27344.
