Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mr. Bertis Hill, 90, of Gadsden, who passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017. The Rev. John Dickinson will officiate and Charles Tolleson will speak. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services will direct. Mr.. Hill was a native of Empire, Ala. (Walker County) and a member of "The Greatest Generation" by serving his country during World War II. He has taken the Honor Flight to the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. He was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 42 years, a long-time member of East Gadsden Baptist Church and owned Gadsden Rubber Stamp Company for more than 20 years. He was a good and honorable man. He loved fishing and the outdoors. He helped everyone he could and valued his family and friends highly, especially his seven granddaughters, their spouses and his great-grandson. Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his parents, Jeffy and Margaret Hill; brothers, Walter, Charlie, and David Hill; sisters, Doris Brannon and Clara Skillman and three infant siblings.He is survived by his wife, Florence Beasley Hill; sister, Rachel Able; children, Vincent (Carol) Hill, Monte (Lisa) Hill, Mary Catherine "Cathy" Akers and Charlie (Kelly) Hill; granddaughters, Hannah Hill, Molly (Kevin) McCain, Marisa (Blake) Sims, Brittany (BJ) Spruce, Jami (Justin) Graham, Kati Hill and Andi Hill; great-grandson, AJ, several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the National World War II Museum, P. O. Box 97336, Washington, D. C. 20090-7336Special thanks is extended to the 9th Floor Staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
