Bette Breeland Brodhurst Rogyom passed away on October 10, 2017 at the age of 79.



Wife of the late Paul F. Rogyom, JD. Mother of Capt. Edward P. Brodhurst of Scottsdale, AZ, and Elizabeth Brodhurst Richard of Monticello, AR.



Mother-in-law of Thomas A. Richard, Jr. of Monticello, and Heather W. Brodhurst of Phoenix.



Grandmother of Nicholas Edward Brodhurst of Tuscon, AZ and Lloyd Benjamin Brodhurst of Las Vegas, NV, Celeste Eva Richard of Fayetteville, AR, Adrien Thomas and Joseph Charles Richard of Monticello, AR, step-grandmother of Jeffrey Paul Rogyom, JD, of Towson, MD and Julie Elizabeth Rogyom Schembri of Houston, TX. Step great-grandmother of William Rogyom and Toby Rogyom.



Daughter of the late Eva Toney Breeland and Ernest E. Breeland.



Sister of Mariette B. Tara of Picayune, MS. Preceded in death by sisters, Barbara B. Bates and Ernie E. Breeland.



Born in Chicago, IL in 1938. Resided in Kenner, LA for many years and in River Ridge, LA since 1968.



She was commissioned as a Notary Public in 1979 and served on the Jefferson Parish Notarial Commission from 1993 until 2006. She was a legal secretary for over 30 years. Prior to that she was an executive secretary for Merchants Trust & Savings Bank and Metairie Bank.



Served as president of Law League of Louisiana (auxiliary to the Louisiana State Bar Association), president of the Jefferson Bar Association Auxiliary (two terms), president of the Jefferson Parish Legal Secretaries Association, member and past president of Metairie Literary Guild, and as an officer and member of the board of directors of the American Lawyers Auxiliary (auxiliary to the American Bar Association). In 2000, the ALA honored her as their Outstanding Individual Volunteer. She was also named Legal Secretary of the Year by the JPLSA for 1973, and Volunteer of the Year by the JBAA for 1997-98 and 2012-13.



She was a parishioner of St. Matthew the Apostle Church of River Ridge for many years. She attended Kenner Elementary, Middle, and High Schools and was in the first graduating class of East Jefferson High School – 1956. She also completed various studies in notarial law, professional legal secretarial courses and was a property and casualty insurance agent at one time.



Also survived by a number of loving nieces and nephews.





A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 12 PM. Interment will follow at Hope Mausoleum.
