Betty Alice Dunlavy, age 93, passed away peacefully at home on August 26, 2017, in Fresno, CA.

Betty was born in Fresno, the daughter of Edward and Pearl Long, and was the fourth of six children. During World War II, after graduation from Roosevelt High School in 1942, Betty began working at Hammer Field.

Betty married Harry C. Dunlavy in December of 1945, and together they raised three daughters. Harry was a United States Marine, and Betty became a purchasing officer for the federal government, eventually working for all branches of the Armed Services, except the Coast Guard. She finished her career at the Fresno Veterans Administration Hospital retiring after 30 years.

Betty was a member of Legacy Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and Sharon Temple #92, Daughters of the Nile. Betty was very involved with American Ex-POWs and volunteered as an advocate for POWs, and their widows for many years.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Pearl Long; siblings, Kathleen Webster, Lecyle Clark, James Long, Joel Long, and Julia Pope; husband, Harry Dunlavy; daughter, Margaret Dunlavy; and grandson, Michael Fox.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Julie Fox and her husband Dennis of Bellingham, WA, and Susan Fine and her husband Glenn of Weed, CA; grandchildren, David Fox, Jared Fine, Brianne Richmond, and James Fine; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Ernest Pope.

Visitation will be held at Stephens and Bean Chapel on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

A Funeral Service will be held at Stephens and Bean Chapel on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. with reception and Graveside Service to follow.
