Betty Joyce Townsend Nash of Austin, Texas died Tuesday, March 31, 2015. She was born at home in Travis County, Texas on September 18, 1938 the second of six children born to James Marvin and Alvena Beckman Townsend.

A few years after her graduation from Manor High School, she moved to Austin with her parents. On July 21, 1962, Betty married Clarence Nash, who was serving in the United States Air Force. When Clarence completed his military service, he enrolled in Southwest Texas State University for one year and then transferred to the University of Texas. Betty and Clarence moved in UT's married student housing where they met lifelong friends, Judy and Dicky Seale and Danny and Paula Trigg. The three couples and their children traveled and vacationed together for many years.

Betty was employed by the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. She retired in 1992 but returned to work part time until 1998. She remained close to the many wonderful friends she met during her years at TRS.
