Betty Jean Mabry Waggoner, 88, passed away peacefully at the Coastal Hospice by the Lake on Friday, January 13, 2017. Born August 30, 1928 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Forrest Summers Mabry and Bertha Smith Mabry. Her husband, Ford C. Waggoner Jr. preceded her in death in 1987. She is survived by Ford C. Waggoner III and wife Leslie, Bonnie Gaines and husband Gary, Jack Waggoner and wife Karen, Tom Waggoner, and JoAnn Waggoner; eight grandchildren, Jay (Jennifer), Erin (Steve), Kyle (Kara), Amanda (John), Andrew, Sarah, Anna, Matthew; seven great-grandchildren, Jordan, Laina, Logan, Faith, Micah, Jonah, Myles; and several other family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by a beloved brother, Thomas Mabry. Betty and Ford were married in West Baltimore UMC on August 31, 1946. Betty was employed for many years as secretary to Dr. Thomas Pullen whom was the Maryland State Superintendent of Schools and left in 1954 to start her family. In 1963, they moved to Salisbury to be closer to Ford’s job. In her later years, Betty was an active member of Grace UMC in Salisbury volunteering many hours in the church thrift store. She was also an active member of Christian Women’s Club. A funeral service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at Bounds Funeral Home, 705 East Main Street, Salisbury, MD on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Pastor Harry Weir will officiate. Burial will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Grace UMC, 635 East Church Street, Salisbury, MD 21804.
