Betty Jean (Haddix) Schnell, 93, of Kansas City, MO passed away March 15. 2017.

Betty was a child of the Great Depression and a bride during World War II. She grew up on Kansas City’s East Side. She graduated from East High School in 1941 where she met her first husband Jack W. Haddix. They married December 5, 1941, two days before the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. One of the Greatest Generation, she held down the home front while her husband served in Patton’s Third Army. After the war, she and her husband moved north of the river and raised five children. She was a nurturing, loving mother and wife. Her husband passed in 1977 and her oldest son Jack Jr. passed in 1999. She worked as a department head and security for Woolco. In 1986, she met her future husband Tom Schnell at a square dance. She and Tom were a dashing couple in their square dance outfits. They married in 1996. They enjoyed traveling, the musical theater and gardening. She loved her cat Missy and watching classic cinema. She enjoyed family get-togethers and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was long-time member of the Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church. The family suggests donations to the Pine Ridge Presbyterian Deacon Fund. Have no regrets, she didn’t.

Betty Jean is preceded in death by her husband Jack W. Haddix and son Jack W. Haddix Jr. She is survived by her husband Thomas Schnell; her daughter Gail and Mel Cox; son Chuck Haddix and his wife Terri Henges; daughter Pamela and Dale Pastelak; son David and Cindy Haddix; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and cat Missy.
