Betty Lou (Welsh) Zimmerman passed from this life to be with her savior on December 23, 2017. Living in Belton, she was formerly of Kansas City, Missouri. Services will be Saturday, December 30th, at 6:30p.m., High Blue Wellness Center, 16400 N. Mullen Rd., Belton MO 64012. The family will receive friends following the celebration of Betty Lou’s Life. Graveside services will be held at a later date.



She is survived by her daughters, Leslie Courington and husband Sammie of Brownwood, Texas, Shirley Harvey of Boulder City, Nevada, Marjorie Hagan and husband Paul of Warrensburg, Missouri, and Pamela Matzinger and husband Mike of Greene, Maine. She is also survived by grandchildren, Matt Harvey, Ben Harvey, Jacob Harvey, Mariah Harvey, Clinton Davolt, Jason Hagan, Salem Matzinger, and Gabrielle Matzinger and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Many others called her Grandma Betty.



Betty spent most of her life in Kansas City, being born there December 18, 1933. She attended schools in Kansas City and San Antonio. She lived a short time at various military bases while her father was enlisted in the army. She graduated from Central Missouri State University (University of Central Missouri) in 1955. After graduation, she married George Zimmerman June 25, 1955. They moved to Keokuk, Iowa, to start her first job of teaching kindergarteners. She and George soon started a family, moved to Kansas City and she was a stay at home mom for many years. Later she worked as a seasonal employee for the IRS until her retirement in 1995.



She enjoyed making treats as a room mother and was very active in the Girl Scouts and then in the Campfire Girls. She enjoyed being a cheerleader for her daughters’ activities and then as a soccer grandma. Betty was a member of First Methodist Raytown. She was an avid reader and spent many hours haunting the Raytown, Trails West, and Cass County libraries.



She is preceded in death by her husband, George H. Zimmerman, her parents, Eugene C. and Marjorie Welsh, her beloved aunt, Helen L. Welsh, her brothers, Milton Welsh and Eugene Welsh.
