Betty was born in Paint Rock, Alabama on June 22, 1919 to James R. Wells and Mary Liza Tennie Belle Smith. She was one of seven children, and the daughter and granddaughter of share croppers. She spent her early years working on the family farm picking cotton. She starting quilting at the age of six and continued to quilt until her hands would no longer cooperate in her late 80s. She met and married the love of her life on December 20, 1947. She was a hard working home maker who never took a day off. She was often found working in the flower or vegetable garden, shucking corn, and canning vegetables. She did so much for so many people. She had a hard time letting anyone else take care of her. She led a simple life, and she spread a lot of love to a lot of people. She will be greatly missed.
