Services for Bill Daniel "Bud" Sanford, 82, of Piedmont will be Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Ingram and Kris Posey officiating. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Sanford passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain in Marietta, Ga. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Myra Sanford; one daughter, Lisa Sanford of Rydal, Ga.; two sons, Greg Sanford (D'Lisa) of Papillion, NE and Phil Sanford (Teresa) of Woodstock, Ga.; five grandchildren, Jonathan Sanford, Zachery Sanford, Austin Sanford, Brandon Sanford, and Alexis Sanford; and one brother, Robert Sanford of Warrior, AL. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Sanford, Zachery Sanford, Brandon Sanford, Austin Sanford, Kim Freeman, and Dwight Webb. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Thornburg, Bud Amberson, and members of the Ed Coogler Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church of Piedmont. Mr. Sanford was a lifelong resident of Piedmont, a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Piedmont where he was a member of the Ed Coogler Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Lozahatchee Lodge #97 F&AM and Alabama Shriners. He retired from Goodyear with 41 years of service, from the Alabama National Guard with 26 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid Alabama fan, Mr. Sanford was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eunice Sanford; and sister, Anna Sanford. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Piedmont Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 333, Piedmont, AL 36272 or the American Cancer Society, ATTN: Joe Lee Griffin Hope Lodge, 1104 Ireland Way, Birmingham, AL 35205.
