On Saturday, August 6, 2016, Billie Douglas Hooks left this earth to be with her Lord and Savior.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Hanes Lineberry Vanstory Chapel, 1900 Vanstory Street, with Pastor Russ Reaves officiating. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 West Gate City Boulevard.
Billie was born October 15, 1936, to the late William Henry Douglas and Ethel Gentry McCracken. Her entire working career was at Belk Department Stores. Billie loved animals, playing with children, listening to her music, and spending time with family. She adored the fellowship at Immanuel Baptist Church where she was a greeter for many years and she was also a member of the "Love and Peace Circle" at Saint Paul Presbyterian church. She will be remembered for her infectious smile and affectionate hugs.
In addition to her parents, Billie was preceded in death by her younger brother, Robert Henry Douglas (Ann). She is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Hurley Ray Hooks; daughters, Terry Cavallini Turner (Jim), Susan Hooks; sons, Stephen Hooks, Wesley Hooks; granddaughter, Stephanie Hooks; nieces, Bobbie Douglas, Kim Capps, Heather King (Link), Tammy Hiatt, Dawn Monnet, Lois Harding and her nephews, Sean Douglas (Eddie) and Michael Douglas (Susan).
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday at Hanes Lineberry Vanstory Chapel.
