Billy Ray Landys, 79, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 5:50 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis. He was born June 23, 1935 in Slayden, Tennessee, a son of the late Thomas and Vivian (VonSchmittou) Landys. He married Ann (Glover) Landys on June 14, 1957 at the Third Baptist Church in Granite City and she survives. He retired as a supervisor in 1995 from Granite City Steel after 39 years of dedicated service. He proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of the Granite City Elks Lodge and enjoyed his days of playing golf and watching horse racing. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends. In addition to his beloved wife of 57 years, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Greg and Joanne Landys of St. Louis, Kim and Ed Kennerly of Granite City, Susan and Jay Bandi of St. Louis and Sam Landys of Granite City; grandchildren, Rachel and Aaron Hodges, Sarah Kennerly, Chris Bandi and Max Landys; great grandchildren, Hayley Hodges, Hannah Hodges, Conner Awalt and Cody Awalt; sisters, Mary Nell and Thomas Patton of Granite City, Ernestine Zidzik of St. Charles, Missouri and Linda Huber of Edwardsville; sister-in-law, Marilyn Landys of Tennessee; other extended family and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Landys and Raymond and Jeanette Landys. In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Thursday, April 2, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon with Reverend Karla Frost officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of one's choice and may be accepted at the funeral home.
