Surrounded by his family, retired Pensacola postal worker Bobby Jack Booker, 83, died December 19, 2017, at Covenant Care Sacred Heart after a brief illness. He lived in Elberta, Alabama, with his wife of 65 years Ethel Booker.
He was born in 1934 near the Lonestar community in Monroe County, Alabama, to William R. and Clara B. Booker.
Like other relatives, he made his way to Pensacola in the 1950s and found work at the Post Office. He finished at the Myrtle Grove branch near the home he built.
Serving six years in the Army reserves, he earned a pilot's license and found a lifelong passion in flying his own aircraft. He later moved to Baldwin County so he could have a home with a small runway outside.
He was a deacon and member of Community of Christ Church of Robertsdale, Alabama.
Apart from his wife, he is survived by his children Jackie Dwight Booker (Kindra) and Tammy D. Perry (Mike); grandchildren Justin Black, Brittany Kneemiller (Brandon), James Perry (Lauren), and Melissa Hamric (James); great-grandchildren Forrest, Bradley and Caleb Kneemiller, and Thomas Hamric; and sisters Joyce Ann McPherson and Nancy K. Bryan. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Derhyl Booker and Peggy Michael.
