Carl James Caffarel, a native of Port Allen and a longtime resident of Metairie, LA., peacefully passed on Monday, August 28, 2017. He lived 91 wonderful years and proudly served his country during WWII and the Korean conflict from 1943 until his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1959. Mr. Caffarel graduated from LSU with a BS in Civil Engineering in 1948, was a long time member of St. Mary Magdalen Parish and retired a vice president of Brice Building Company in 1991. He and his late wife Lydia enjoyed square dancing, travel and spending time with their grandchildren. Mr. Caffarel is survived by his three sons Michael D (Holly) Caffarel of Mandeville, LA, Gregory A Caffarel of Rockwall, TX and J Douglas (Anna) Caffarel of San Diego, CA, eleven grandchildren, Christopher M (Joy) Caffarel, Thomas N (Jocelyn) Caffarel, Robert A (Samantha) Caffarel, David M (Jessica) Caffarel, Patrick D Caffarel, Brenton J Caffarel, Emily A Caffarel, Emma M Caffarel, Benjamin C Caffarel, Ian J Caffarel and Adrienne G Caffarel, two great grandchildren, Alexander J Caffarel and Layla I Caffarel, and his brother Roy S Caffarel of Palm Springs, CA. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Lydia McCants Caffarel, his parents Cyril A and Isabel Blanchard Caffarel, five siblings Lera C Gremillion, Cyril A Caffarel, Jr., Elaine C Sclatre, Betty Ann C Rabalis and Edward J Caffarel, one grandchild Kimberly A Caffarel, and one great grandchild Steven N Caffarel.

Visitation and mass will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Metairie commencing at 9:00 am, with a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am on Saturday September 23, 2017. Interment will be at the All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans, LA immediately after the service.
