Carl Robert "Bob" Walker passed away peacefully in his sleep with his loving wife Beverly by his side. Born in Bloomington, IN on August 23, 1928 to Una (Meadows) and Fred Walker. He is a 1946 graduate of Bloomington High School. Bob was a veteran in in the United States Marine Corp where he was a mechanic for the Vought F4U Corsair aircraft during World War II. He worked many odd jobs and talked about working at the Tin shop. He graduated from the Indiana Barber Academy and went on to barber at various locations including the IMU. He was co-owner of the Bloomington Grand Hotel barber shop from the late fifties to the early sixties. He opened Walker's Barber Shop when the mall opened in 1965 of which he was very proud. He was a former president of the Indiana Barbers Union. His passion was playing golf especially at the Cascades Golf Course where he started playing in the Wednesday noon group in the 1950's with his brother Joe and many other close friends which were more like family to him. It would later be called Walker's group. He bragged that he was the oldest living original still left in the group. He was still playing at 88 and looked forward to the 2017 season. He was able to play two days before he death and shot an 85 and had three skins. He had a great day and just enjoyed being out in the fresh air doing what he loved. Bob is an avid IU sports fan and was also quite the handyman offering his services to help others. He assembled and repaired golf clubs. He was a long time member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church. He was so very proud of his family which he loves very much especially his loving wife of almost 59 years Beverly that he cared for to the end. He was the definition of till death do us part. He is survived by his wife Beverly (Carpenter) Walker, daughters Beverly McClure and Jennifer (Roy) Matthews, sons John F. (Cindy) Walker and David (Donna) Walker. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, sister and brother in law Barbara and Rudy Tabereaux and sister-in-law Joyce Carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Una(Meadows) and Fred Walker,two brothers: Joseph(Catherine)Walker and James(Thelma)Walker, two sisters: Harriett Walker Larmour and Jean Walker Faris, brothers-in-law David Carpenter, Don Carpenter, and John R.(Ester)Carpenter.
Visitation for Bob will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017 from 2-6 p.m. in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St., Bloomington, IN 47401. The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. with visitation on hour prior to service. Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens, Bloomington, IN with the Monroe County Honor Guard presenting military honors.
