It is with great sadness that the family of Carmelita Cruz Prudencio announces her passing on July 23rd, 2017 at the age of 76.

Carmelita was born on July 6th, 1941, in the Philippines, to Jose O. and Flora J. Pacunayen Cruz. She graduated from the Chinese General Hospital School of Nursing in Manila, Philippines with a degree in nursing in 1963. In 1964, she immigrated to Philadelphia, PA through the Albert Einstein Medical Center (South) Exchange Nurses Program. The next year, she transferred into the University of Virginia’s nursing exchange program. During this time, she met and began dating her future husband, Robinhood Prudencio, who had also immigrated to the U.S. and was serving in the U.S. Navy. They married in Philadelphia, PA in 1966 and started a family. In 1971, the family moved to Charlottesville, VA, where Carmelita worked as a Registered Nurse at the UVA Medical Center. She retired in 2000 after 29 years of service. Carmelita was an avid word searcher, enjoyed tending to her orchids, flowers and plants; and spending time with her family. She enjoyed listening to music, especially when her children performed together. She was a devout Catholic with a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
