Groton- Carol Ann Grande, 64, of Groton, passed away March 28, 2015 at the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, CT. She was born December 22, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late, Robert Charles and Geraldine (Staley) Schmitt. Carol enjoyed life and spending time with her loved ones. She loved watching drag races. Although she did not eat clams she loved to dig for cherry stones along the shores of Bluff Point State Park. She also spoke fondly of her elderly residents at Mystic River Homes where she worked as a CNA. Many lucky friends and family members enjoyed her wonderful cooking and company. Survivors include her sisters Linda Seckinger of Groton, Julie (Steve) Woods, and Lisa (Fayyaz) Karim, brothers Daniel (Linda) Sumita, Gary (Maryann) Sumita, Robert (Blanca) Schmitt, and her stepmother Karen Schmitt, all of Chicago; her best friend and former husband, Stephen Grande of Mystic; and son William Robert Oquendo of Mexico. She was "Antie" Carol to nieces Dawn (Bert) Davis of Uncasville and Christine Hiller of Ohio, and nephews Mark (Melissa) Parker of Waterford, Jeffrey (Amber) Seckinger of New Jersey and Timothy Seckinger of Groton. Additionally, her great nieces and nephews Kyle, Laura, Justin, Jared, Rachel, Lauren, Myra, Micah, Isla and numerous others living in Chicago will miss her greatly. She will be missed by her four-legged friends, Saint Bubbles and Barkley the Trouble Maker. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, (April 6th) 11 AM at St. Mary of our Redeemer Church, Groton Long Point Road, Groton. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Jefferson Avenue, New London. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in her honor to the Groton Senior Center, 102 Newtown Rd Groton, CT 06340.
