Loving Husband, Father, Friend

Carol L. Fellure, age 81, left this world for Heaven on March 13, 2018. Carol was born May 27, 1936, in Gallipolis, Ohio, to Homer and Doris (nee Meal) Fellure. Carol attended school in Gallipolis and Columbus and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1959 (B.S. in Education) and was a proud and forever fan of the Buckeyes. He received his M. S. in Education from Washington University in St. Louis in 1964. In 1964-65 Carol taught in a Military Dependents School in Giessen, Germany. He was also the recipient of national science foundation fellowships to study at Washington University and University of California at Berkley.
In 1957 he married Lydean Cheatwood, and their beautiful daughter Melissa was born in 1960, and later, Carol and Lydean had an amicable divorce. On August 21, 1976, Carol married Patricia Ann Griffin, and they adopted their beautiful daughter Maria in 1986 from Honduras. Carol spent his entire teaching career in Avon Lake, starting at the high school as a science and mathematics teacher. But the majority of his career was serving as a guidance counselor at Troy Junior High, Avon Lake High School, and Learwood Junior High. At Learwood, he was the advisor for the Olympics of the Mind team, with the students winning numerous awards over the years. He retired in 1994 after 35 years as an educator.
Carol touched many lives as an educator, and former students remember him fondly as a caring and affective teacher and counselor. Carol also served passionately as a negotiator for the Avon Lake Teachers Association. He was instrumental in making significant changes which benefited both teachers and students.
After retirement, Carol found time for many special interests and hobbies. He was ordained as a Sufi Minister and was involved in meditation and drumming groups and other spiritual groups. He wrote and self-published two books on spirituality. He enjoyed game nights with friends. Carol and Pat traveled extensively in their retirement years, and by 2017 they had visited all seven continents.
Carol was active in two churches and commented that he felt ready for Heaven because he had God and love in his life. Left to honor and remember Carol are his wife Pat and daughter Maria (Ryan) Leone and former wife and friend Lydean Fellure, and their daughter Melissa. Calling hours will be held 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm at BUSCH FUNERAL HOME 163 AVON-BELDEN RD, AVON LAKE on March 23, 2018. A Private Memorial Service will be held later to celebrate Carol's life.
