Carol Mae Williams Fassell Yauchzy, 81, of Fort Wayne, passed away on January 22, 2018. Born on December 11, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah, she was a daughter of the late James A and May Belle (Baldwin) Williams Sr. She attended Olympus High School, and then went, as a Ford Scholar, on to obtain her BA in Cybernetics (Machine Intellegence) from the University of Utah in 1958. After graduation, she assisted her husband Gerald in research on Photosynthesis. Carol then worked as a computer programmer and network administrator and senior field programmer for System Development Corporation in Santa Monica, CA, working at the North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) headquarters in North Bay, Ontario, Canada. Later, she relocated to central New York State, and was an organic farmer and taught computer science at Cayuga County Community College in Auburn, New York. She later worked as a computer systems specalist for the Onondaga County Department of Drainage and Sanitation in Syracuse, New York. Carol's interests included rocks and minerals; she was an enthusiastic Girl Scout Leader; and she participated in bird watching counts from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
She is survived by her first husband, Gerald Fassell, whom she married in 1957, with whom she had four children; John (Beth) Fassell, of Roseville, CA, Susan Fassell, of Geneva, New York, Mark Fassell, of Auburn, New York, and Jill Fassell, of Syracuse, New York; sisters, Michele Yamanaka, of Fort Wayne, and Darlene (Jim) Kallin, of Sutherland, Utah; and brother, James (Linda) Williams Jr, of Folsom, California; grandson, Patrick Fassell, of Roseville, California; 13 nieces and nephews, 25 great-nieces and nephews, 14 great-great-nieces and nephews, and one great-great-great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be 1pm, Wednesday, January 31, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St Joe Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be held from 6 to 8pm, Tuesday, January 30, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne. Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimers Association.
