Dr. Carolyn Neel, a resident of Russellville, moved on from this life on May 12, 2017, at the age of 75. Born in Ft. Worth, Texas to Dennis Clinton Stark and Virginia Sides, she leaves behind her husband Scott Neel, a daughter Melanie McLeroy, and many other beloved family and friends.

Carolyn had an illustrative career that included negotiating for the United States Army Corps of Engineers for many years. After the death of their only son Alan, Carolyn and Scott focused on Carolyn's academic career. She worked diligently and earned her Ph.D., in Asian History from the University of Hawaii.

Carolyn's greatest love was teaching, reading and writing. She retired from Arkansas Tech University in 2015, and missed all her wonderful students.

Dr. Neel's memorial service will be on Monday, May 15, 2017, at 3:00 p.m., at the Shinn Chapel officiated by the Rev. Jos Tharakan and under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
