Abele, Catherine Elizabeth, age 92, of Kettering, Ohio passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2017 of natural causes. She was the daughter of the late William and Regina (Bernard) Hoying of St. Patrick's, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, James L. Abele. She is survived by her eight loving children: James (Mary) Abele, Denise (Dr. Matthew) O'Connell, Diane (Theodore) Hobson, Susan (Patrick) Ryan, Patricia (Jeffrey) Willoughby, David (Kathy) Abele, John Abele, and Kevin (Kim) Abele. She is also survived by her 25 loving grandchildren: Catherine and Michael Abele; Meghan, Caitlin, Erin, Daniel O'Connell, Ben and Colleen (O'Connell) Smyth; Gerrit, Jackie, Maggie, and Ben Hobson; Colin, Kevin, and Patrick Ryan; Jennifer and Matthew Willoughby; Nicholas, Matthew, and Claire Abele; Adam, Alicia, and Aaron Abele; Maria, Christina, and Dominic Abele. She is also survived by two loving great-grandchildren: Isaac and Lily Smyth. Catherine is preceded in death by her brothers: Clarence (CJ), Father Leo A., Cyril, and Edward Hoying and sister, Rosemary Saalman; and brother-in-laws Paul Perin, Art Presas, and Roman Saalman. She is survived by her brother Alvin (Joan) Hoying and her sisters Veronica Presas, Margie Thieman, and Susan (Lester) Prenger and her sister-in-laws Bonnie Hoying, Betty Hoying, and Pat Griner. Catherine graduated from Ft. Loramie High School in 1942 and Miami Jacobs Business College. She worked as Secretary in Personnel Office, Veterans Administration in Dayton and Monarch Machine Tool Company in Sidney before her marriage. Catherine was a very active member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Kettering for 45 years. She was a member of the St. Albert's women's guild, volunteered as a Eucharistic minister, and counted the weekly church collection. She was also a member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbus #0203. Catherine loved playing the piano and was an avid reader. She had belonged to a book club. She enjoyed being a seamstress making many dresses for her twin daughters. Visitation will be at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME - FAR HILLS CHAPEL, Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from 5 to 8 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 3033 Far Hills Avenue in Kettering on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 12 noon.
