Mrs. Catherine Macris, of Atlanta, passed away Tuesday, March 28, after a brief illness. Mrs. Macris was born and raised in Atlanta. She graduated from Girl’s High and attended Agnes Scott College. Mrs. Macris was preceded in death by her parents, Nick and Maria Macris of Atlanta; her sister, Sophia Alexandrides and brother, Demetri Macris, also of Atlanta. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Darby of Atlanta; brother-in-law, Dr.Costas Alexandrides of Atlanta; cousin, Jimmy Likis of Birmingham; cousin, Demetrios Stappas of Atlanta; special friend, Darlene Adams of Atlanta; several nieces and nephews in Atlanta and Birmingham; and a number of God children. Mrs. Macris worked as a medical transcriptionist for Grady, Emory, and St. Joseph’s hospitals. She was a lifelong member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Atlanta where she was a member of the choir, the Philoptochos Society, and the Laconian Society. She was also instrumental in establishing the choir at the Holy Transfiguration Church in Marietta. She was either “Aunt Cathy” or “Nouna” to many and well-known for her delicious Greek baking and cooking, as well as her wonderful voice and love of singing. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m., Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at H M Patterson Oglethorpe Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Rd. N.E., Brookhaven, GA, 30319. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Atlanta.
