Cecil Holstead of Port Neches, Texas died March 31, 2015 at the age of 97. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, his wife of nearly 74 years, Katie Holstead and his youngest daughter, Jo Beth Williams. He is survived by his older daughters, Joyce Haese of Choudrant, Louisiana and Cecile Holstead of Port Neches. Other survivors include 8 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Holstead, a 55 plus year member of First United Methodist Church of Port Neches and a member of the Men's Bible Class where he served as their teacher for 35 years, remained active up to the last 2 months of his life. He held many offices in his church, was Mayor of Port Neches from 1954 to 1958, councilman from 1950 to 1954 and District Clerk of Jefferson County from 1962 to 1982. He served with many local organizations including, SETX Hospice from its foundation until 2012, Goodwill Industries, The Salvation Army, Lions Club, The Boy Scouts of American, AFL/CI0 Labor Union, the District Clerk's Association (at state and national levels) , United Way and Chamber of Commerce, to name a few. He was a man devoted to his family, church, job, city, county, and country. His intent was to always leave a place better off for his having been there. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Port Neches with Dr. Wesley Welborn officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015 at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church Port Neches, P.O. BOX 277, Port Neches, Texas or Holistic Christian Ministry, 458 Dogwood Forest Drive, Hemphill, Texas 75948.
