Cecilio A. Torres, known to many as Chico, 85, of Oneonta, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2017.

He was born on November 22, 1931 in Cuoma, Puerto Rico, the son of Marcos and Fernanda (Melendez) Torres.

Chico grew up in Puerto Rico. He left school when he was young to work, plowing fields with oxen on local farms. As a youth, he had the opportunity to go to Florida to play baseball on a minor league team. While in Florida he contracted TB. He was transferred to Homer Folks in Oneonta for treatment. After a year in the hospital, Chico decided to stay in Oneonta. He worked hard and learned how to speak English. Eventually Chico gained employment with the Labor Union and he helped to build route 88 and the Wilbur Park pool.

He met and married Patricia Dillenbeck. Although their marriage didn't last, they had two sons together, Cecilio M and Victor.

Chico was a hard worker and a man who loved winning at playing pool and cards; affectionately known by many as the "one handed bandit." He enjoyed baseball, fishing and dancing at Babcocks.

He built two houses in Puerto Rico where he retired with his long-time love, Linda Constable. He eventually returned home to NY where he passed away with family.

He was a member of the Oneonta Moose Club, Elks Lodge and the Eagles Club.

Chico is survived by 2 sons, Cecilio "Mark" Torres of Cobleskill, and Victor A. Torres of Oneonta; his grandchildren, Selena, Katelin, and Cecilio V. Torres; and a great great grandson, Cameron.

He was predeceased by the love of his life, Linda Geertgens Constable.

A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 12 pm at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta. A reception and time to greet the family will immediately follow at "The Roost" located at Brooks House of BBQ, Oneonta.
