Mrs. Cesarine Estelle Pyatt Ruggles, 86, of Connelly Springs, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at her residence, following a brief illness.
Cesarine was born on October 27, 1929 in Burke County, the youngest child of the late Sadie Hudson Pyatt and Roscoe Lee Pyatt. After graduating from Valdese High School she attended Lenoir Rhyne College, where she received an AB degree in elementary education. She went on to teach in the Burke County Public School System for thirty years. Following her retirement, she volunteered in the schools and for the Red Cross. Mrs. Ruggles was also an active member of Mt. Hebron Lutheran Church for sixty four years. In 1952 she married Melvin R. Ruggles and together they had one daughter and four sons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Melvin R. Ruggles, one sister, Sue Peeler and one grandchild, Daniel Ruggles.
Survivors include her five children; daughter, Ruth Elizabeth Ruggles, sons, Rodney and wife Mary , Marty Ruggles and wife Connie, Andy Ruggles and wife Anita and Robert Ruggles and partner William McLaren, and one sister, Jewel Bounous. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Andrew, James, David, Matthew and Ginny Ruggles and two great-grandchildren, Scarlett Ruggles and Peyton Ruggles.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at Mt. Hebron Lutheran Church with Pastor Russell Makant officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery in Rutherford College.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
