PORTER, Charles D. (Chuck), 80, of Tampa Florida passed away April 25, 2017 at his home. He was born in Gouverneur, New York. He retired from the Hillsborough County Clerk’s Office as the Property Control Manager. He was also the ADA Coordinator for the Tampa Sports Authority and the New York Yankees. Chuck was on the Board of Directors for the city of Tampa Mayor’s Alliance for persons with disabilities and consulted on numerous venue projects in the Tampa Bay Area. Chuck was a champion for persons with disabilities and the catalyst for public change, locally and nationally. Throughout his life he was an avid sportsman. He was the manager for his high school sports teams and in his youth, he wrestled for his high school wrestling team. In college, he played wheelchair basketball and he was the team captain for the Tampa Wheels Wheelchair Basketball Team for many years. He enjoyed baseball and football. He knew many baseball and football players that we now consider heroes in the sports world. Everyone knew Chuck Porter and he knew everyone. He was the “go to” person if you wanted something done. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Porter; mother, Audrey (Weaver) Fuller; step-father, Harold Fuller and brother, Tim Porter. Chuck is survived by his children, Mark Delage, John Delage, Mechelle Lazar and Mellissa Delage; his brothers, Herbert Fuller, Van Fuller and wife Jane, Richard Fuller and wife Diane, Phillip Fuller and wife Clara and sister- in- law, Susan Porter. Chuck is also survived by 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on April, 28, 2017 from 6-9pm at the Blount & Curry Funeral Home- Carrollwood Chapel with a service from 7-7:30pm. The family will also receive friends on May 2, 2017 from 1-3pm at French Funeral Home, 16 Barnes Street, Gouverneur, New York 13642 with a graveside to follow at Hailesboro Cemetery.
