Charles E. Alden ORANGE- Charles E. Alden, 77, of 49 Cherry Street, died unexpectedly at home on Monday, May 31st, after being stricken ill. Born in Montague on June 26, 1932, he was a son of Albert and Hazel (Joslyn) Alden Sr. and attended the Orange High School and grew up in Warwick. He was married to Margaret (McTernan). Charles enlisted into the United States Army on December 1, 1952 served during the Korean Conflict with the 1745 Co. B 8th Calvary Regiment. He was honorably discharged on November 2, 1954. Charles was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Resources Management as a park ranger at the Mount Grace State Forest in Warwick for 37 years before retiring. He also had been a part time bar tender at the Warwick Inn as well. An avid outdoorsman, Charles enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing baseball when he was younger, and enjoyed cooking, especially chili. He also enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and the Green Bay Packers. Survivors include his children, Scott Alden of Phillipston, Midge Pizana of Acton, and Thomas Alden and his wife, Theresa, of Lunenburg; grandchildren, Carmen Belville and her husband, Scott, and Trey Hayes and his wife, Erica, all of Sterling, Adrianna Hayes of Acton, Matt Alden of Lunenburg, and Teresa Pizana of Acton; great grandchildren, Nicholas Belville, Aaron Hayes, and another one on the way; brothers, Albert Alden Jr. and Richard Alden, both of Warwick; sisters, Evelyn Hurlburt of Orange and Beverly Alden of Montague; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins. Charles was predeceased by brothers, Kenneth, Russell, and Robert Alden, as well as a sister, Alberta Lague. Calling hours will be held Friday evening, June 4, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange. A funeral service will be held on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at Witty's Funeral Home in Orange. Interment in Holtshire Cemetery, Orange, will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215. Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, is directing the arrangements.
