Charles was born on July 3, 1936 in Boonville, MO. to Charles W. & Mary Ellen (Schlotzhauer) Leonard. He was the fifth generation to live at Ravenswood, his family estate near Bunceton.

Charles was married to Sara Young in 1971. She survives of the home near Bunceton. Charles attended Boonville High School, MU, and Central Methodist University. He was a business man owning bowling establishments in Fayette, Boonville, Tipton and Jefferson City. Charles later farmed Ravenswood and raised Shorthorn cattle (the breed significant in Ravenswood’s history).

His great passion in high school was sports. Charles played Varsity basketball for 4 years at Boonville High School and held the school record for most points scored in a game for over 40 years. When 3 point shots were initiated into the game, his record was finally broken. Charles remained an avid sports fan his entire life.

Charles was proud of his family heritage and was a member of The Society of the Cincinnati (an organization of direct male decedents of the officers of the American Revolution). His great, great, great, great-grandfather, Reverend Abiel Leonard, 1740-1777, was chaplain in Washington’s army.

Survivors include sons: Nelson (Nancy) Leonard, Mitchell (Jacque) Leonard, Bradley (Sharon) Leonard, James (Whitney) Leonard and daughter: Natalie (Jason) Leonard-Redmond. He had 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and be made to The Society of the Cincinnati or Second Chance Animal Rescue and will be accepted by Thacher Funeral Home, 629 East Morgan Street, Boonville, MO.
