Charles F. (Charley) Goodgame, 94, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 4, 2017. He was born October 25, 1922 in South Pittsburgh, TN, the seventh of eight children of Robert E. Goodgame and Annie Thomas Goodgame.
After graduating from South Pittsburgh High School, Charley moved with his mother and younger sister to Chattanooga. Charley served his country in WWII along with all four of his brothers. Only his eldest brother, Commander Robert E. Goodgame, perished in the war. In 2012, Charley received the Ordre National de la Legion D'Honneur from the French Government for his service -an award that he reluctantly accepted, but gladly dedicated to all of the men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. After the war, Charley attended and graduated from the University of Chattanooga in 1948 where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Upon graduation, Charley began a long career as a chemist with Dupont in Chattanooga and Michigan. After taking early retirement from Dupont in 1984, Charley became an active member of Lay Witness Teams sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ all over the country. He was a long time member and Deacon Emeritus of Ridgedale Baptist Church.
He will always be remembered for his joy in the Lord, his three holes in one on the golf course, his incredible memory and his wonderful singing voice. In the last years of his life, he made it his personal ministry to sing Happy Birthday to all of the ladies at Ridgedale Baptist Church on their birthday.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara C. Goodgame and his eldest son, Charles Michael Goodgame.
He is survived by his son, Edward (Ed) Goodgame and his wife, Anne of Atlanta, GA; his daughter, Carol G. Dupree and her husband, Keith (Chattanooga); his younger sister, Brooksie (Mrs. Paul) McCay of Athens, TN; his beloved daughter in law, Marcy W. Goodgame of Rossville, GA; his wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many dear nephews and nieces.
