Charles G. (Charlie) Peters, 87, of Norwich passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 21, 2017 at the Chenango Memorial Hospital of Norwich.

Charlie was born on October 23, 1929 in Corry, PA and in 1939 moved with his family to the Oxford area where he attended the local school. As soon as he was of age, Charlie entered the United States Army serving his country during the Korean War as a paratrooper. Following his discharge he returned to the Oxford area where he remained until moving to Norwich in 1966. While living in Oxford he had worked for the Corset Factory and Mesko Glass in Norwich. In 1983 he opened his own business, Chenango Glass, which he operated until 2013.

Charlie was an easy going sort of guy who enjoyed playing simple jokes or pranks on people. Every year he and his wife spent many good times camping at Copes Corners with their "camping family." He was also a longtime and active member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Norwich. Over the years there were many bus trips made with the "church family" which were always a lot of fun.

On December 12, 1987 he married Alice Stringham who passed away November 8, 2015.

Charlie is survived by his children; Gail (Michael) Place of Endwell, Dianne O'Reilly of Guilford, Nancy (Daniel) "Doc" Wells of Norwich, Marie Petry of Apple Valley, CA and his sister June Hart of Oxford. Also surviving are his 11 grandchildren Jessica Place & companion Maurie Geake, Kevin Place & companion Suzy Neil, April (Kevin) Green, Dr. Jennifer Anderson & husband Dr. James Anderson, Joshua Wells & companion Sarah Baker, Aaron (Michele) Wells, Shevonne (Justin) Iverson, Shawn (Teresa) Brown, Michael (Allison) Hatton, Desiree Hatton and Dawnette Hatton along with 19 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife Alice, Charlie was predeceased by his parents Fred and Marion Peters, a son Michael Hatton and his son-in-law Timothy O'Reilly.

A funeral service for Charlie will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am from the Calvary Baptist Church of Norwich. The Rev Brian Conover, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Warn-Ten Broeck Cemetery.
