Mr. Charles “Charlie” Louis Dodson, age 87, of Douglasville, GA passed away Friday, July 28, 2017. He was born December 25, 1929 in Mableton, GA. Mr. Dodson was a member of Midway United Methodist Church. He was a former Douglasville City Council member and served as County Commission Chairman from 1975 until 1980. Mr. Dodson owned Dodson Tire and Glass for many years and was considered the best mechanic in Douglasville. Charlie was responsible for the Dog River Water Reservoir and paved most of the roads in and around Douglasville. After attending drafting school, he drew and built many buildings, including Midway United Methodist Church, Mt. Carmel and Sunset Hills churches. He also built and was owner of Whitley Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home. He proudly served in the Georgia National Guard for 10 years.



Mr. Dodson is preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances Dodson and his sisters Elsie Smith and Joann Entrekin.



Charlie is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Leake Dodson; sisters Betty Merritt and Patricia Smith; brother-in-law Clifford Leake and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.



The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, July 29, 2017 from 5 until 8 pm. A funeral service will be held in the Rosehaven Chapel on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at 3 pm with Rev. Ikey Watson and Dr. Francisco Artley officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosehaven Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlie’s memory to Midway United Methodist Church, 1930 Midway Road, Douglasville, GA 30135.
