It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Charles Meredith Clampitt. Charlie was surrounded by family and friends as he found peace on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Charlie was born Nov. 29, 1931 in Sugarland, Texas. The middle brother of Richard (now deceased) and Bo Clampitt. Charlie joined the Navy and had an extensive 29 year CTR career. Having been stationed in places such as Africa, Iceland, and Scotland, where he married the mother of his children, Sandra Crane. He continued on to Maine, Turkey, Japan, Maryland, and finally Pensacola, where he retired as a Master Chief. Charlie always made sure to do a lot of sight seeing, and loved photography. After retirement from the military, Charlie joined the Escambia County School District's Sid Nelson Middle and High School, where he touched the lives of many students and faculty. It was there where Charlie met Della Merritt, who would become the love of his life. Charlie had a life full of love, laughter, friends, motorcycle riding, painting, fishing, running, bicycling, and evenings at children's sports games. He also had adventures to the casinos, travels up the Mississippi, to Alaska, and Key West. He treasured time at Senior Socials and was loved by all who attended. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Thomas Clampitt and brother Richard. He is survived by brother Boyd Clampitt, daughter Kirsty Roberg (Chris), son Iain Clampitt (Tracey), daughter Katie Owens (Dale), Long-time Love Della Merritt, Larry Merritt (Tammy), Paige Bryan (Mark), grandchildren Kyleigh, Jessie, Maeve, Danica, Maggie, Elijah, Caidan, Dustin, great grandson Teigan, as well as an abundance of friends. Inurnment will be on Wednesday January 31 at 1:30 PM at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors. OAK LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 619 New Warrington Road is entrusted with arrangements.
