Mr. Charles P. "Chuck" James, 74, of Stokesdale, died Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Wesley Long Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 31, 2017, at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street, with Rev. Craig Toth officiating. Entombment will follow at Westminster Gardens Colonial Mausoleum, which he helped design.
Chuck was born April 3, 1943 in Forsyth County, the son of Cody Martin James and Maymie Southern James. His earlier career began moving from farm to farm growing tobacco. At age 20, he married Gwendolyn Cox and they had four children; his proudest moments in life. He enjoyed coaching and playing sports, singing, dancing and playing Rook, "a bird game".
Chuck started his professional career with Gibraltar Mausoleum Corporation and finished as the Regional Vice President for the large funeral and cemetery corporation, SCI.
Chuck was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church in Stokesdale, where he enjoyed going to Sunday School, and was a member of the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by, two sisters, one brother, a daughter-in-law and a granddaughter.
Surviving is his wife Gwendolyn of 54 years; children, Phillip James of Kernersville, Marty James (Lynn) of Sheridan, MI, Dawn Griles (Dan) of Chesterfield, VA and Chris James (Wendy) of Kernersville. Also surviving are his siblings, Margaret McCuiston of Kernersville, Mary Carter of Greensboro, Walter James of Kernersville and Sarah Edwards of Lexington. Chuck leaves thirteen grandchildren to cherish his memory.
Friends will be received from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family asks with gratitude that memorials in Chuck's name be made to Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, 9102 Mount Carmel Road, Stokesdale, NC 27357.
