Charlie F. Dorris, "Big Daddy," age 81 of Greenbrier, died Thursday June 9, 2011 at Baptist Hospital. Born July 5, 1929 in Robertson Co. to the late William Smith and Myrtle Hackney Dorris Sr., he was a lifetime member of Greenbrier UMC, a farmer, a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, former Robertson County Commissioner for 22 years and charter member of the Greenbrier Athletic Club. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dorris was also preceded in death by his brother, William Smith Dorris, Jr., and sisters, Dorothy Clinard, Reba Matthews and Willa Ann O’Rear. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 pm on Sunday June 12, 2011 at the Greenbrier UMC with Rev Amanda Diamond and Rev. Hap Hewgley officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens with Bart Krisle, Kevin Elliott, Edward Carter, Henry Carter, Barry Pendergrass, Tommy Williamson, Ricky Green and Jim Williams serving as pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers are, Dick Fisher, Paul Bracey, Randy Williamson, Dickie Thaxton, Mike Crawford and Prince Green. The family will receive friends at the Robertson County Funeral Home on Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 4-8 pm and again on Sunday at the church beginning at 2 pm. Mr. Dorris is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Mary Joe Carter Dorris, son, Joe Smith (Monica) Dorris, daughter, Charlotte (Terry) Dorris all of Greenbrier, brothers, Dr. Mac (Mary) Dorris of LaGrange, GA, Jimmy (Melba) Dorris of Greenbrier, brother-in-law, Dr. John O’Rear of Fort Worth TX, grandchildren, Rob (Margarete) Dorris, Ken (Erica) Dorris, Jody Dorris and Blake Dorris, and great grandchildren, Luke, Katelyn, Heidi and Wesley. For those wishing to make a memorial, they may be made to either the Baptist Hospital Foundation (Heart Fund) or Greenbrier UMC. All memorials may be sent in care of the Robertson County Funeral Home.
