Christa Elizabeth (Leisler) Krause passed away on December 26, 2016 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Stettin, Germany on January 17, 1931 and immigrated to the United States in 1952 with her husband Hans. She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Hans Volkmar Krause (8-17-2013) and their son, Michael Hans Krause (12-19-1972). She is survived by her brother, Hans Leisler, his wife Carla and niece Antje Leisler, and nephews Christian Leisler and Florian Leisler, cousins, Barbara Pattis , Gerhard Schobelt , all in Germany and cousin Renate Schobelt in Italy.
Hans spent over 30 years of his American working career with Lufthansa Airlines and together, Christa and family lived in Bangkok Thailand, Minneapolis, MN., Cairo, Egypt, Melbourne, AUS as well as two postings in Atlanta. They always loved traveling, visiting friends and continued to travel well into retirement. After retiring in 1985, Christa and Hans returned to Atlanta where they had kept their home and Christa resumed her volunteer work at Northside Hospital Auxiliary Volunteers. Over a 44 year volunteer career at Northside, Christa accumulated over 35,000 volunteer hours at the hospital, in spite of living out of the country for almost 10 of those years. She held most every position within the Auxiliary and to say it was her passion would be an understatement.
In addition to her volunteer career, Christa spent her retirement years doting on her adopted grandchildren, Heather Weaver Muldowney and Colleen Clare Weaver, daughters of Clare and Bart Weaver. She was at every play, recital, graduation, summer break, Christmas, birthday and of course wedding. In every way, she was a wonderful grandmother and a tremendous positive influence in their lives.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Northside Hospital auditorium in the 980 building. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Northside Hospital Atlanta Auxiliary Scholarship, #961, 1000 Johnson Ferry Rd., NE., Atlanta, GA 30342.
