Clara McCrory Luna, 89, Destin, Florida, departed this life on October 15, 2017.
Mrs. Luna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was born on September 6, 1928 to the late Harry Lee and Elliotte Stockard McCrory. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Curtis Luna, Jr., after a loving marriage of 63 years.
Mrs. Luna is survived by a daughter, Patricia Adele Luna (Santa Rosa Beach, FL); a son, Dr. Andrew Lee Luna, and his wife, Danita (Florence, AL); two grandchildren, Jessica Adele Luna and Jay Patrick Luna; a brother Alfred Ray McCrory (Rhode Island); and countless people who will remember her as a beautiful Southern lady, kind and compassionate friend, and person of deep and abiding faith.
Mrs. Luna was a member of First United Methodist Church, Northport, and was active in Christian discipleship for many years. She attended Point Washington UMC while living in Florida and she loved both her churches.
She was also an avid reader, world traveler, seamstress, and incredible cook. She attended The University of North Alabama (formerly known as Florence State) and later nursing school. Mrs Luna worked at Partlow State Hospital as well as various nursing homes around the Northport area. Most of her time was dedicated to caring for her family and volunteering. She was a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader, room mother at Crestmont Elementary, Red Cross Volunteer, nurse at Camp Winnataska, and a team leader for the Walk to Emmaus and Kairos Prison Ministries. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church, Northport on Friday, October 20th at 12:00 Noon (Lunch will be served) with services following in the church at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Gardens in Tuscaloosa.
Officiating the service will be The Reverend Tish Malloy, District Superintendent of the United Methodist Church in Oklahoma and The Reverend Doctor Robbins Sims, Senior Pastor at Dauphin Way UMC, Mobile. The eulogy will be given by Sarah Lofton from Oklahoma City, OK. Doctor Jennifer Roth-Burnette and Giavanna Zanninni Griffin will lead the music for Mrs. Luna's Celebration of Life. Pallbearers are Brian Darr, Steve Fleming, Mark McDavid, Matt Provow, Kris Sullivan, and Wayne Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers are the JL Peterson Sunday School Class of FUMC, Northport, The staff of Brookdale Assisted Living - Destin, and the Emmaus and Kairos communities.
