Coreene Chauvin, age 80, died peacefully on March 27, 2015 at Sunrise of Shelby Assisted Living. Coreene was born in Saskatchewan, Canada on April 6, 1934, the daughter of Paul and Rosella Burns. In 1944, when Coreene was 10 years old, her family moved to Detroit. The family home was on Hereford Street in Detroit, just off Mack. Coreene was often sent to buy ice from the Chauvin Coal, Oil and Ice Company around the corner on Mack at Neff. It was there she met Raymond Chauvin. He always treated Coreene with extra special customer service. Coreene attended Southeastern High School and worked as a telephone operator and at Stouffer's Restaurant at Eastland Mall in Harper Woods. On July 21, 1951 Coreene Burns married Raymond J. Chauvin at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Detroit. Coreene was known for her baking. Her sons proudly say she could bake anything! She also enjoyed crocheting, travel and being with her family. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Ray and Coreene purchased a home in Bradenton, FL and spent close to 20 years there before returning to Michigan to be near their family in 2010. Coreene was a founding member of the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Bradenton. They worked tirelessly at the church, Coreene inside helping in the office, and Ray, outside doing landscaping. She was also a member of the Chesterfield Senior Center in Michigan. Coreene is survived by her four sons, David (Georgene), Douglas (Catherine), Darryl (Kathleen) and Daniel (Judy); 11 grandchildren, Lisa, Jeffrey, Michael, Ben, Steven, Jared, Joseph, Benjamin, Katelyn, Steven and Stacy; and five great-grandchildren, Grace, Christian, Jaxon, Chase and McKenzie. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond in July of 2011. Visitation for Mrs. Chauvin will be held from 2:00 to 9:00 pm Monday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 o'clock Monday evening. Her body will lie instate at St. Peter Catholic Church, 95 Market Street in Mount Clemens from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning until mass begins at 9:30 a.m. The family has suggested memorials be made to Seasons Hospice Foundation, 8537 Solution Center; Chicago, IL 60677.
