Dale was born on July 27, 1956 and passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016.

Dale was a resident of Millersburg, Ohio at the time of passing.

He was an auto enthusiast and earned his ASE Master Mechanic Certification from Universal Technical Institute in Ontario, CA.

He reported to the Submarine Training Center in Orlando, FL in Feb. 1982 where he completed boot camp and Basic Electricity and Electronics School. Following Submarine School and Sonar Technician 'A' School, STSCS (SS), Schonauer reported to USS L MENDEL RIVERS in Charleston, SC. While onboard, he completed a Mediterranean deployment, two Northern Atlantic deployments and an under ice deployment in the Arctic. Following completion of Sonar Technician 'C' School in 1987, he reported to the USS HELENA and served as the Sonar Division Leading Petty Officer. During his three and a half year tour, he completed two Western Pacific deployments. In 1992 he was assigned to the Performance Monitoring Team (PT) at Submarine Squadron 1 in Pearl Harbor where he earned his Associates Degree from Chaminade University. He reported to the USS LOUISVILLE as the Sonar Division Leading Petty Officer in 1997. During his tour the ship completed two Western Pacific Deployments. In Nov. 2001 he reported to Submarine Squadron 11 were he served as the Sonar Assistant until July 2005. STSCS Schonauer was awarded the Naval and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, the Naval and Marine Corps Achievement Awards and various other campaign and unit awards. He retired in 2005 with full honors.

Burial will take place with full military honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. Schlabach Funeral Home in Shreve is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be shared with the family at Schlabachfh.com. Events
