Jones, Dan R. Passed away peacefully on September 12, 2017, at age 54, after a courageous 5 ½ year battle with brain cancer. Beloved husband of Lynn Bruett Jones. Proud father of Austin and Abbey. Loving son of Janet (the late Roger) Blanc and the late Nathan Jones. Brother of Debbie Guisleman, Duane (Kathy) Jones and Diane (Pete) Barrett. Son-in-law of Mary Anne (Tom) Smith and Till (Jan) Bruett. Brother-in-law of Karen (Mike Roberts) Bruett, Till (James Nastus) Bruett, Chris (Tiffany) Bruett and the late Todd Bruett. Further survived by many nieces, nephews, other family and many dear friends. Dan will always be remembered for his big smile and outstretched hand. He would walk into any situation and immediately start shaking hands and introducing himself to everyone. His greatest love was his family, and he dedicated countless hours to the Wauwatosa West Booster Club, working concession stands, setting up and hosting fundraising events and sitting in the bleachers with Lynn cheering for Austin and Abbey during their many athletic endeavors. At various times, he coached not only his own kids, but many others as well with the Trojan Basketball Club, Tosa Baseball League and Jr. Trojan Baseball. Generosity was part of his DNA. He felt blessed to watch Austin and Abbey enjoy wonderful successes on and off the field at Wauwatosa West, and to see them both go off to college and thrive. He loved attending Badger football games and watching Austin play baseball with the Warhawks and the Chinooks. You could count on him to be sporting either Badger or Warhawk gear almost any day of the week. Some of his favorite memories included a trip to the beaches of Normandy with Lynn, fishing in Canada with his Father-in-law, spring trips to Texas, watching Austin and the Warhawks win the DIII college baseball world series, road-tripping to Florida for spring training, and seeing Abbey at her very first Badger football game as an official UW student. As he battled his cancer over the past 5 ½ years, he looked for the blessings in every day, and he beat the odds by a mile. He will be sorely missed, but those who knew him are better people because of him, and will find solace in knowing that he is finally at peace. No doubt he is shaking hands and making friends in heaven right now. A private service was held at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa with private interment at Wisconsin Memorial Park. A tailgate-style celebration of Dan’s life is being planned for a later date with details to follow. Those interested in memorial gifts are encouraged to support the Froedtert Foundation (to benefit brain cancer research) or Wauwatosa West Booster Club (to help fund the Dan Jones scholarship). Addresses are listed below. Lynn, Austin and Abbey would like to thank their wonderful circle of family and friends for all of their support and love. They are also grateful to Dr. Mueller, Dr. Connelly and Dr. Siker and the wonderful staff at Froedtert Cancer Center. You gave him years, and he lived them to the fullest. A final thank you to the incredible staff at VITAS Hospice for their loving and compassionate care. Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin Brain Tumor Research Program 9200 W.
