After a lengthy battle with cancer, Danny Hobgood, 67, of Chattahoochee, Florida, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, July 2nd, 2015. He was a patriot, having served as a 3rd Class Petty Officer (ABH3) in Naval Aviation aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Shangri-La (CVA-38) from 1966 until his Honorable Discharge in October 1969. During that service he received several personal commendations from the ship's Commanding Officer for his service as a flight deck coordinator during humanitarian operations in the Mediterranean. His love was the railroad, however, and he served faithfully as a conductor with the old L&N and later, the CSX railroad for 35+ years, retiring in Chattahoochee in April, 2006. Danny was a beloved friend, and the fiercest of Florida Gator fans. There were no strangers at his lovely, old-style home in Chattahoochee. He warmly welcomed everyone. He was no stranger to tragedy, however, losing both his wife, Kay, and beloved younger daughter, Rebecca, far before their time. Nonetheless, he always maintained a joy in life that was infectious to both family and friend. We all will miss his engaging smile, his totally unselfish kindness, and his lighthearted approach to life in general. Danny was preceded in death by his father, D.P. Hobgood, Jr., his mother, Doris Kathryn Hobgood (Wilson), his wife, Kay (Clary), his daughter, Rebecca, and his brother, Jimmy. He is survived by his sister Marsha Schwab (John); daughter, Lisa Kay Kerber (Alan); son Paul (Krista); granddaughter Tiffani Louise Kerber; and grandson, Matthew Paul Hobgood.
