Daniel William Botsford, 79, was born in Detroit, MI to William Botsford and Ruth Reames. He passed away at Suncoast Hospice in Clearwater on July 27, 2017 of multiple causes.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Baer; two daughters from a previous marriage, Cynthia (James) Bassett of Ann Arbor, MI and Krista Botsford of Wilmington, DE; two grandchildren, Brooke Bassett and Ashton Botsford; and sister, Jane (Bruce) Corrie of Southport, NC; He is also survived by Karen’s children, Tricia Crosby of St. Charles, IL and Kurt (Kirsten) Crosby and their two children, Connor and Camryn of Traverse City, MI.

Dan graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in Grosse Pointe, MI in 1955 and enrolled at Michigan Tech University where he majored in engineering. He left after 2 years and enlisted in the United States Army in 1957 to relieve his parents of the financial burden and “grow up and get his head together”.

During his tenure in the Army, he spent his assignment in Germany where he was a surveyor, Specialist E4. Dan was honorably discharged in 1960.

Upon returning to Grosse Pointe, MI, Dan enrolled in Wayne State University in Detroit, where he received both a Bachelors and Masters degree. He taught Math at University Liggett School before he was hired by Kmart . He worked at the executive level for Kmart headquarters in Troy, MI for 16 years. He was then hired by the consulting firm, ADP, as a people soft consultant. From there, he joined Cedar Crestone International, also as a people soft consultant, from which he retired in 2007.

He and Karen moved from Port Huron, MI in 2005 to Cove Cay Village IV where together, they made many friends with whom they enjoyed several social activies. Dan was interested in golf and enjoyed an occasional game with his friends.

Dan served on the Board of Directors for Cove Cay Village IV from 2008 until his passing. He was the President of the Board for many of those years . He also served on the Cove Cay Community Association Board of Directors. Dan was heavily involved in the day to day activities of the office and staff.

He was an advocate for the employees and had great respect for them. In turn the employees held him in the highest regard. He was a caring and determined leader. Dan was passionate about his service and dedicated to ensuring the owners were protected and held great pride in his fiduciary duties.

Dan will be greatly missed by his wife, family and friends. A memorial service will be held for Dan at a later date.
