David Caldwell left this world Tuesday, May 15 doing exactly what he loved to do, educating children about nature by sharing his love and appreciation of the state of West Virginia. He graduated from Richwood High School in 1974. A coal miner for 17 years, he bravely went back to college and changed his career. He graduated from Concord College in 1998. He served as a National Service Park Ranger for the last 14 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved music, and most importantly was a man of great integrity. He lived life to the fullest and encouraged others to do the same. He took advantages of opportunities afforded him through his work, life, and family which only added to his colorful personality. Perhaps he had been preparing us all to receive his last lesson over the many years we with him, we just didn't know it… live each day and love what you are doing with it. He is survived by his immediate family--wife, Cindy, children, Jessica (and husband Jeffrey Walters) of Ocracoke, NC, Matt (and wife Laura) of Talcott, WV and grandchildren, Kobe and Brooklyn along with many other family members and loved ones. Visitation will be at Blue Ridge funeral home in Beckley Saturday, May 19 from noon to 2 p.m. A memorial service will held at 2 p.m.
