Mr. David Franklin Shook, 73, of Hickory, passed away on December 30, 2020 at his residence following a period of declining health.

David was born October 6, 1947, in Catawba County to the late William Shook and Louise Cheek O'Shields. He was a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church for thirty seven years, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and on various church committees. David served honorably in the United States Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant, and fought in the battle of Hue in Vietnam. He qualified as a rifle and pistol expert; and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal. He loved God, family, and many friends. One of his favorite past times was attending baseball, basketball, and football games that his grandchildren and children played. He also loved to go deep sea fishing and riding his bicycle.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Bowman.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Shook; children, Jamie Oliver and husband Jeff and Kelly Shook and wife Libby; grandchildren, Jesse and Jake Oliver, and Barger and Harrison Shook; siblings, Larry Shook, Gene Shook and wife Monica, and Peggy Hall. Also surviving is sister-in-law, Lisa Jones and husband Travis; and nieces and nephews, Jordan Jones and Aiden, Dennis Bowman, Michelle Bowman, Todd Bowman, Spencer Bowman, Matt Shook, Stephanie Shook, Ashley Hayes, Tad Hayes, Holly Shook, Christopher "Bubba" Shook, and Scott Shook.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2020 at 3:30 PM at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church with Pastor Eric James officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Due to the Covid restrictions, mask and social distancing are encouraged.

Military honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corps.

The family will receive friends on Sunday prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM.
