After a courageous battle with cancer, Dave Harry Dougherty died peacefully on October 23, 2017 at Banner Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born in Hawthorne, Nevada on September 1, 1949 to Irvin Stanley Dougherty and Norma Elizabeth (Thoraldson) Dougherty. He was the third in line of nine children. The majority of his childhood was spent in Collegeville, Pennsylvania (Google Earth :19 Glenwood Avenue, Collegeville, PA., the house is still there). He graduated from Collegeville Trappe High School in 1967. He later learned auto mechanics and became a Master Auto Mechanic. He lived in Columbia, Maryland and Woodstock Virginia before moving to Phoenix. He built and ran a successful pool cleaning business in Phoenix; he also invented an attachment that would make his work more efficient. He is fondly remembered as a great guy with a heart of gold, a wonderful brother, a noble gentleman, a gentle giant with a tremendous sense of humor, always able to make us laugh. He was thoughtful, quiet, and witty. A very generous, reliable, handsome Uncle. As a brother he would do acrobats with his sisters and let them hang out with the "boys club", he was adored by the sisters. His special food for Thanksgiving get togethers was to take deviled eggs, he would bring some to his sister's home and the girls waited eagerly! He is fondly remembered as handsome and tall, the nicest Uncle. He is remembered as responsible and kind. Dave is preceded in death by both parents and brothers, Robert Martin Dougherty (June 24, 1951- November 4, 2016) and Thomas James Dougherty (March 25, 1958- July 13, 1983). He is survived by his lovely daughter, Tara Jenkins of Hagerstown, Md.; 6 Sisters, Donna L.(Phil) Schwendinger of El Paso, Tx; Lana Rutter of Rockport, Tx; Ramona E (Richard) Ulbricht of Oysterville , WA; Priscilla A. Dougherty of Austin, Tx; Susan M. Ubelhor of Phoenix, Az; Norma J. McDonald of Eden, Tx.; and all of his fantastic nieces and nephews, cousins, and Uncle Edward Dougherty of Richmond, Va. He was cremated at Green Acres Glendale Mortuary and his ashes will be scattered at his favorite spot; Tequila Flats, Arizona. Family and friends are encouraged to hold get togethers in his honor, light a candle at your favorite church, or do a favorite activity in his memory. You could listen to CCR, John Mellencamp, or John Fogerty in his memory too! He had a lot of love for all of his family.
